Every ingredient we put in our Bars with Benefits is a stand-alone superfood and 100% plant sourced. We also make sure to buy organic whenever possible. Here’s a guide to the ingredients including exactly what benefits these bars are full of.

Whole grain rolled oats are high in vitamin B1 and contain a good amount of vitamins B2 and E. Both varieties of oats are also a good source of magnesium and contain potassium, iron, zinc, pantothenic acid, and copper. They are low in fat and contain no cholesterol though some protein and a lot of fiber, helping to regulate your digestive system.

Bananas contain manganese, vitamin C, and vitamin B6, as well some fiber. They have been shown to decrease cardiovascular disease and protect against ulcers. Furthermore, they may counteract calcium loss prevalent in a high-sodium diet. Bananas also have high quantities of potassium, a very important electrolyte.

Walnuts are an excellent source of omega-3 essential fatty acids as well as monounsaturated fats, assisting with brain functions, cardiovascular functions, and brain health. They may also prevent gallstones and regulate cholesterol for type 2 diabetics. They contain melatonin, which helps regulate sleep, and l-arginine, which boosts blood cells.

Cherries oxidize the the body with their natural antioxidants, slowing the aging process. They also have melatonin, for sleep regulation, and vitamin A. They aid in brain health and memory function, as well as reduce pain and inflammation of arthritis and sore joints. Cherries also reduce the risk of diabetes.

Coconuts are excellent for one’s immunity. They are antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial, and anti-parasitic, meaning they kill harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Because of that, if you consume coconut in any of its various forms (whether it be raw coconut, coconut oil, coconut milk, coconut butter, etc.), it can help treat some of mankind’s worst and most resilient of illnesses such as influenza, giardia, lice, throat infections, urinary tract infections, tapeworms, herpes, gonorrhea, bronchitis, and numerous other ailments caused by microbials.

Hemp protein powder is a complete protein, containing all essential amino acids for the human body. It also contains the proper ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Hemp powder makes an ideal protein supplement due to its high protein obtained from 100% plant-based, pesticide free, non-GMO methods.

Sunflower seeds may help provide anti-inflammatory and cardiovascular benefits, lower cholesterol, and prevent cancer. Sunflower seeds are an excellent source of vitamin E. Sunflower seeds are also an excellent source of linoleic acid (an essential fatty acid), dietary fiber, protein, and minerals such as magnesium and selenium, and are high in cholesterol-lowering phytosterols.

Pumpkin seeds may promote prostate health and bone protection, provide anti-inflammatory benefits for those with arthritis, and help lower cholesterol. Pumpkin seeds are a good source of the essential fatty acids, potassium, phosphorous, magnesium, manganese, zinc, iron, copper, protein, and vitamin K.

Flaxseeds, also known as linseeds, are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids. Flaxseeds may provide anti-inflammatory benefits, protect your bones, and protect against heart disease, breast cancer, and diabetes. Eating flaxseeds also lowers blood pressure in men with high cholesterol. Flaxseeds are rich in fiber and manganese and are a good source of folate, vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), magnesium, phosphorous, and copper, and lignan phytonutrients.

Chia seeds are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, which play an important role in the prevention of heart disease, hypertension, stroke and depression. They were another staple of the ancient Aztec diet and contain minerals including calcium, magnesium, and zinc, as well as fiber and protein.

Vanilla extract has been shown to reduce anxiety and stress. It also helps lower nausea and regulate menstruation. Lacking the major benefits of other ingredients, it still has a feel-good attitude.

Cinnamon reduces bad cholesterol, is anti-infectious, reduces arthritis pain, may reduce proliferation of cancer cells, contains fiber, iron, calcium, and manganese, and is a natural preservative. Additionally, research shows that it may be helpful in the treatment or prevention of neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and meningitis.

Finally, plain old salt is such a crucial part of human health for such an array of reasons, I won’t even begin to explain. However, even though we use it in small quantities for good purposes, the average American diet is far too rich in salts. Consider cutting back in your diet today.

Bars with Benefits have no preservatives, so if you don’t plan to eat them within 3 days, pop them in the freezer to retain the nutritional benefits and prevent spoilage.
